Sydney has premiered four roles in brand new compositions, including Alma Menckenberg in The Audition Fever with the Butler Opera Center, COMPUTER in XOR at the Cohen New Works Festival, and the title role in Lori: A Micro-Opera for our Stolen Sisters, a new opera of which she is the librettist. Sydney earned a Bachelor of Music in Choral Music Education from the University of Texas Butler School of Music, studying with Dr. Cynthia Morrow. Her greatest happiness comes from expanding accessibility and diversity in music education and performance.
Artist Statement
My art is the living dream of all who came before me. I exhale the untold stories of my ancestors. I articulate, in their unsung tongues, our hopes of rising up in this world. I resonate my voice in the triumph of our communities.
DEI Statement
As an artist whose identities intersect at the perceived avenues of “exotic”, “other”, and “forgotten”, I sing to empower myself and my community, representing us instead as “stunning”, “exemplary”, and “evocative”. My art strives to serve as a beacon of hope for all those who share my dream: dreamers from every race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, or circumstance.
